Winter sunsets on the Jurassic Coast can be dramatic, but on this occasion the sunset itself felt fairly uneventful. As the sun dropped below the horizon it looked as though the evening might not deliver much at all.
A short while later, the afterglow began to strengthen, and with it came a warm light that picked out the textures of the cliffs and the arch at Durdle Door. The sea was calm, allowing for a long exposure that softened the water and helped emphasise the curve of the beach leading into the scene.
It was a reminder that some of the best coastal light often comes after the sun has gone, when patience and staying a little longer can be rewarded.
